How Do I Split a Transaction Between Categories? #
Sometimes a single transaction includes multiple types of expenses. For example, a shopping trip to Target might include office supplies, personal items, and groceries.
How to Split a Transaction:
- Click on the transaction you want to split.
- Select “Split Transaction” from the options.
- Enter the amount for each category and assign the appropriate category to each split.
- Save your changes.
Tabby will now track each portion separately, ensuring accurate reporting by category. This is especially helpful for mixed-use transactions or multi-purpose retailers.
Can I Manually Add a Transaction? #
Yes! If you have a cash expense, a transaction from an unconnected account, or simply want to add something manually, Tabby makes it easy.
How to Add a Manual Transaction:
- Click on the “Expenses” on the left hand menu bar and click “Records”
- On the “Records” screen on the right side center of screen you will a button that says “Add Expense”
- Enter the date, amount, merchant name, and category.
- Optionally, add notes or attach a receipt.
- Click “Save.”
- Manual transactions appear alongside your automatic bank transactions and are included in all reports and tax summaries. This is perfect for cash-only businesses or tracking reimbursable expenses.
How Do I Create a Custom Category? #
Tabby comes with dozens of pre-built expense categories based on IRS guidelines, but if you need something more specific to your business, you can create custom categories.
How to Create a Custom Category (Only Available for Standard or Pro Users):
- Go to Accounting> Chart of Accounts.
- Click “Add Account.”
- Select Account Type, Sub Type & General Ledger Account, After that put the name of the category you want under “Account Name”.
- Confirm and Save your new category
This can also be done in the Transactions Screen or Review Screen, by clicking on any Category already assigned or not assigned to a transaction and clicking on “Add New Category” and following above instructions.
Once created, your custom category will appear in the category dropdown when editing transactions. Tabby’s AI can also learn to suggest your custom categories for future transactions.
Can I Merge or Delete Categories? #
Currently there is no option to delete or merge a category. We will have this feature soon and will let you know once available.
